The Hancocks Journal: May
Hello and welcome to our May edition of The Hancocks Journal.
This month we’re celebrating the arrival of Spring with a colourful selection of jewels guaranteed to brighten your day. From antique coral, via vintage Bulgari and artist jeweller Barbara Anton, to a spectacular pair of ‘mystery set’ earrings we recently commissioned, please enjoy these colourful highlights of our latest arrivals.
BARBARA ANTON
Gold and Amethyst Pendant
The American artist jeweller Barbara Anton began designing jewellery in the early 1960s whilst studying at the Gemological Institute of America with her husband. Her bold modernist pieces are characterised by their artistic often sculptural flair, abstract forms and raw, organic textures. Her work was featured in museums and exhibitions across America and Europe and she won many awards including the Diamonds International Award. Today her jewels are sought after by connoisseurs and collectors around the world.
OSCAR HEYMAN
Diamond and Sapphire Ear Clips
These beautiful floral earrings have arrived just in time for spring and the warmer weather and longer days we’re all looking forward to. Our two 5ct+ old European brilliant cut diamonds have been set for us by Oscar Heyman into the centre of each flowerhead earring. They are surrounded by petals with beautifully matched calibre cut sapphires in ‘mystery’ style settings. The three dimensional earrings are bold in size and design and being clips are suitable for both pierced and non-pierced ears.
Jewel of the Month
A Magnificent Antique Gold and Coral Fringe Necklace c.1860
Now that Spring has finally sprung, we thought we’d add a splash of joyful colour with our Jewel of the Month for May. This beautiful fringe necklace is a wonderful example of the very finest gold and coral jewellery from the Victorian era. Likely to have been made in either Rome or Naples, pieces like this were popular souvenirs for the aristocracy and nobility who travelled through Europe on what became known as The Grand Tour. It has survived in marvellous condition and we’re delighted to be able to offer this for sale
