November Jewel of the Month

November Jewel of the Month

This adorable little Art Deco diamond and ruby bird brooch has just flown in to Hancocks London,
perfectly positioned on a diamond baguette and ready to be November’s Jewel of the Month.

Dated circa 1925 and signed by Cartier, the brooch measures 3.8cm long and 2cms high and is set in
platinum and adorned with old European cut diamonds. With intricate detailing, careful attention
has been given to every detail of the design from the cut of gemstones used – mixing faceted, carved
and cabochon gemstones as seen in the bird’s bejewelled long tail, wing, and eye respectively – its
sweet little red and black enamel beak together with accents of onyx on its dainty legs.

Guy Burton, Managing Director, Hancocks London, comments: “Cartier bird brooches are found in so
many different shapes, styles, sizes and species, however the common denominator is always the
exceptional quality one expects from a Cartier jewel.

“We’re particularly pleased to be able to offer this piece to our clients as finding the early Art Deco
Cartier bird brooches is becoming harder and harder.

“It’s also a very wearable brooch given its size and would suit almost any lapel.”
The brooch features a total of 42 old European cut diamonds estimated total 0.84cts and a carved
ruby wing estimated weight approximately 2cts.

Guy Burton adds: “Vintage pieces by Cartier are always in demand as they are a solid investment
given the Cartier name is a byword for luxury and exceptional craftsmanship. This piece really does
have it all going for it – the name, the era, the gemstones, together with the fact it is in excellent
condition. I don’t expect it will be hanging around too long and sure it will be flying off to a new
home very soon!”
