Director’s Notes

The iconic Bulgari Monete jewels were launched mid 1960s and driven by Nicola Bulgari, a keen coin collector. The collection started with brooches and soon expanded to long chains and onwards, the reception was so positive that they never looked back and still create this range today. Bulgari have great respect for the historic value of the ancient coins used in the jewels, they refer to them as ‘Gemme Nummarie’ (Coin gems) and it is an important factor that in every jewel the coins are set carefully so that they are not damaged in any way. Each coin has its information engraved into the jewel so it’s importance and history are not lost. Bulgari is a company proud of its origins and using these ancient coins also honours their cultural heritage. The Bulgari Monete collection pieces are more than jewels, they are jewelled history.

Bulgari

In 1880 a young Greek silversmith, Sotirios Boulgaris, arrived in Italy looking to build a new life. It didn’t take him long to establish himself and after a couple of false starts he opened his eponymous shop on Via Sistina in Rome in 1884.
